The National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Cross River State chapter, has inaugurated a new Executive council to pilot its affairs for the next three years.
The new executive has Umo Bassey-Edet, as Chairman. She was returned unopposed with the Assistant Secretary, MissTina Todo of the Guardian Newspaper.
Performing the inuaguration of the new exco the National President, Mrs. Ify Omowale who was represented by the Vice President of Zone F, Timi Idoko, called on them to galvanise other women journalists.
She emphasized on the need to forge a common front and uphold the virtue of professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
She said, “we are happy to be here to witness this great day. My message to the incoming executive is that they should endeavor to run an all inclusive executive. Carry all your members along as well as welcome every idea and pick the best out of the best”.
” I want our members here present and please pass the message to other NAWOJIANS that we need to be passionate about our great union, which can only happen by getting involved in every activities of NAWOJ, she added”.
She however commended the credentials committee and caretaker committee for a job well done despite some challenges that called for the cancellation of the first inauguration.
On her part, the Senior Special Assistant to the state governor on Electronic Media, who served as NAWOJ state Secretary in the last tenure, Imani Odey, congratulated the new exco and urged them to work harder in order to double the achievements recorded by the immediate past administration.
She called on NAWOJ members in the state to see it as one of its responsibilities to propagate the activities of the state government at all times.
In her response, the Chairman, Bassey-Edet thanked the National and extended a hand of fellowship to all NAWOJIANS in the state.
