The People’s Democratic Party(PDP) in Yakurr local government area of Cross River state, has been congratulated for working as a family which saw PDP producing the council chairman and councillors at the just concluded council elections.
The commendation was made by the Cross River State Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Prof. John Ofem Inyang.
Inyang who doubles as Political Leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Yakurr expressed joy over the birth of the new council administration led by Hon. Ofem Ebri Obeten.
Inyang, in a chat with Patriot News recently expressed satisfaction at the way members of the party conducted themselves throughout the electioneery period.
According to him, “from the publication of election time table, last year to the point the exercise was suspended, in March, due to the Corona Virus outbreak and uptilll the day of inauguration, early this week,we have been together as a family”.
He said “there were series of encumbrances; which are expected in every political outing. The road to success is never easy. From one challenge to the other. But I am glad it all ended in praise”.
He attributed the success to the party and her members at all levels, holding that no one single person deserves the praise, except the entire players; those who played in favor and even those who seemingly did not.
“It was not a one man’s show. Everyone had a role which they played beautifully. From the party’s state leadership down to council wards leadership. Party chieftains, caucuses, opinion leaders and decision influencers — all hands were on deck. And I think we came out in flying colors,” he said.
“As for those who felt their interest was not protected, Prof. John said “You see, it is a contest for one seat and not more than one person can occupy it. Only one person can be elected as Chairman and another as Councilor at a time. But I want to, at this point stress that ‘the battle is not for the strong nor the race for the swift’. To me, besides the collective role we played, destiny played out too. Others who at one point or the other aspired, should see it from this perspective — today might not have been your day, but tomorrow is coming”.
He called on all well-meaning indigenes of Yakurr to join hands with Hon. Ofem Ebri Obeten, stating “that no body, irrespective of his intellectual disposition can succeed by himself”.
“No chairman can succeed all by himself. The support for the local government administration will be for the interest of Yakurr, not any individual’s interest. Hence the need for us to collectively reach-out a hand of support for the incumbent government, he added”.
“The chairman is a meek and humble progressive with a good listening ear. He does not treat people’s advise with contempt. He is a good bedfellow and someone in dare need of our help. Let’s reach out to him, he said .
He declared, “I want to graciously and unreservedly thank His Excellency Sen Prof Ben Ayade for providing the much desired leadership in the state and piloting the affairs of our great party. His inclusive style is emulated and we the Yakurr people will continue to give His Excellency absolute support,”.
He lauded the support of the traditional rulers of Yakurr for the enthronement of peace in all the communities during and after the elections..
“Together we will develop Yakurr. No one should shy away from contributing his own quota for our common good, he added.
