Cross River SSG Decries Upsurge In Rape Cases Nation Wide

The Secretary to Cross River  State Government Barrister Tina Banku Agbor, has strongly condemned the reported upsurge in rape cases of women and teenage girls in the state and the country in general.

Agbor stated this in her office  in Calabar recently while reacting to the alleged raping of a minor by his grandfather in calabar.

She described the act as barbaric, cruel and has the tendency to destroy the emotional and psychological lives of the victims.

She called on the Media, Faith based and other organisations to join hands with the government and the mediatrix foundation  an initiative of the wife of the state governor Dr. Lynda Ayade to create awareness about the great evil of rape ,

She regretted the rampant cases of the phenomenon  with its attendant ordeals on women adding that there is every need to let the women feel safe by identifying a potential treat to the act and to nib it in the bud.

The SSG expressed confidence that the perpetrators of the act will be brought to book and justice for the victims 

While expressing her sympathy with the various victims, she assured of her support and  solidarity with the womenfolk adding that there was no justification for rape.

It would be recalled that there has several reported cases of rape of women and girls nation wide with an ongoing protests to condemn these ugly trend.
