Regular supply of water will soon be restored throughout the state as Cross River State Water Board Limited (CRSWBL), has received delivery of N52 million worth of water pipes.
The pipes are for installation and distribution to all the eight substations in the state for regular supply of pipe borne water.
This was disclosed by the Managing Director of the Water Board, Chief Victor Ekpo, in an interview in Calabar.
He expressed profound and deep appreciation to the Cross River Governor, Senator Ben Ayade.
He lauded the governor, for his magnanimity and for releasing of the sum for the purchase of the water pipes, for the eight substations to carry clean and hygienic water supply to the people of the state.
Ekpo also commended Ayade for his support in ensuring this materials were delivered safely to the state, and assured the him that his team will do everything possible to get water across to all areas of the state.
According to him, “the magnanimity and good gesture of the governor, will go a long way, to address the issue of many damaged water pipes across the state.
He lamented that the demaged pipes are caused by road construction and contractors as well as the activities of illegal connectors of water, who deliberately gets water through bypassing of the water metre
.
This, he said, usually result in the destruction of many pipes, thereby serving as a big impediment for smooth destribution of clean water to customer and clients in some parts of the State.
The Water Board Managing Director appealed to Cross Riverians, customers and their clients in the state to give Water Board little time to fix up the broken pipes so that they can be able to commence full distribution of water in all the eight substations in the state.
To this end, he disclosed that the Maintenance Unit is working really hard to ensure that damaged Water Board pipes are spotted and repaired immediately.
“The maintenance unit just created a WhatsApp Platform, where Cross Riverians who see any broken pipe or leakage can send in videos or photos and the location of the broken pipes and our Maintenance Unit will be there immediately to fix the pipes,, Ekpo revealed”.
Giving insight to new water pipes, the Managing Director also disclosed that the life span of the pipes will be 20 years, and that the previous pipes which are currently giving issues were laid 20 years ago, and blamd expiration of pipes as a reason for the various pipes bursting and leakages across the state.
