4,955 Graduates As Unical Holds Its 34th Convocation Ceremony

The University of Calabar is graduating 4,955 students at its 34th Convocation Ceremony on March 27th, 2021.

Out of this figure 22 students baged First Class honours during the period under review. A breakdown shows that 15 of them are from the University of Calabar while seven came the affiliate Universities.

This was disclosed by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar Prof. Florence Obi while briefing news on the activities lined up for the ceremony.

Also during the convocation, two prominent Nigerian business tycoon would be concerned with Honorary Doctorate degrees of Business Management for distinguishing themselves towards the growth of our economy.

They are the Chief Executive Officer of Innoson Motors, Chief (Dr) Innocent Chukwuma and Alhaji (Dr) Kamaru Yusuf respectfully.

According to her, the two Nigerians were chosen because of their contributions to the labour market as each has over 5000 Nigerians in their employment adding that “they have also contributed greatly in promoting local content for the advancement of the country’s economy”.b

A breakdown of the graduands include, 22 students with 1st First Class, 1,073 2nd Second Class Upper, 2,763 2nd Class Lower while 26 had Pass degrees.

She disclosed a total of 154 Post Graduate Diploma Students, 187 Masters Degree students and 56 PhD graduands.

The highlight of the Convocation is the public lecture to be delivered by the Minister of Transport, Rt.Hon.Chubuike Rotimi Amaechi on the topic “The National Question and the Challenges of Nationhood in Nigeria”, on March 26th, 2021 while the Research Fair and Exhibition is scheduled for Thursday, March 25th.

Obi said that the 34th convocation ceremony would hold at the Abraham Ordia Stadium in the University of Calabar
