The recent decision by the Nigerian Navy to establish to naval posts within Bakassi Local Government Area has been described as proactive and capable of upturning the lifestyle of its people for the better
The Chairman of Bakassi Local Government Area, Hon Chief Iyadim Amboni Iyadim, stated this while reacting to a statement made by the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo during a courtesy call on the governor of Cross River State, Prof Ben Ayade
Iyadim, who applauded the decision, said the two proposed naval posts at Ikang and Dayspring will not only reinforce security but also= stimulate economic activities within the area
According to him, Bakassi is an international border town with an expanse waterfront which needs heavy security presence to protect and safeguard water transportation and commercial activities
” I welcome the presence of officers and men of Nigerian Navy and as well assure them of our cooperation as law abiding citizens. I will work with them to ensure they maintain please and order within the coastal areas of our communities,” he said.
He explained that, “Their presence here will also boost marine business and transportation,” adding that ,”we shall soon become a safe haven for all to come and invest”.
