A group known as Unified Commercial Drivers’ Association have appealed to the hierarchy of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC) to consider Ogoja in the selection of chairmanship candidate during its forthcoming congress in the state.
This so because from the political calculation, Ogoja has remained marginalized for decade from holding top polical offices for too long..
The appeal is coming from an association who was ably represented by its chairman, Pastor Thomas Effiong Okon while addressing Online media practitioners in Calabar.
If granted, the association is suggesting Mr. Godwin Nyiam to lead the party in that capacity.
Iyiam currently is the Director General Transport Regulatory Management Department in governor Ben Ayade’s administration.
According to the association, Nyiam, has been able to stabilise the transport sector. In government if you don’t have a good representation, that government can not work.
We are solidly behind him because when someone has done well, you give him a path on the back to encourage him to do more.
“Godwin Nyiam contested the Senate election and lost, yet he stepped aside. He showed royalty as he stepped aside. He had given a shot at the Senate and it did not work, he should be allowed to run the APC chairmanship position”.
In the politics of Cross River state Ogoja has greatly been marginalized in everything.
“People like Legor gave a shot at the governor but he did not get it but today he is at the House of Representatives. If Godwin had given a shot at the Senate and it did not work, he should be allowed to run the chairmanship elections. Ogoja has never produced someone for the Senate. I think this is the right time to reward Ogoja people”.
The association noted however that “It is not a do or die affair, but we are sayiing he is capable to galvanise and bring reforms into the party come 2023. We are making this appeal because we have a voice as a responsible association.”
“Godwin Nyiam should be given the opportunity to run so as to carry us along come 2023. He has paid his dues. His loyalty to this administration is not questionable or in doubt.”
The group said “we think if he is given the opportunity to lead the party, he will be able to galvanise from Bakassi to Obanliku victory for APC. He will be a rallying point for every body since he has the capacity from the students, transport sector and the secular politics. He has that connect to the youth, transport sector and the students across the state”.
“We are saying whoever that is taken decision in the party hierarchy should pencil the name of Mr.Godwin Nyiam as the next APC state chairman”.
Ogoja should be considered to produce the next APC state chairman and the rightful candidate should be Godwin Nyiam. He has a human face, accommodating and above all God fearing.
