Central PDP Party Leaders, Stakeholders Resolve Zoning And Moves  It To Southern Senatorial District

The Central Senatorial  Leaders and Stakeholders in the People’s Democratic party (PDP) in Cross River State, have finally put to rest the Issue of zoning  to rest.
As a result, they unanimously resolved to zone the 2023 governorship seat to Cross River South.

It would be recalled that before  now, the Senator representing Central Senatorial in the Senate, Professor Sandy Onor and his supporters have insisted that zoning should be jettisoned as all the three senatorial districts in the state have taken their turn hence any qualified person from the state can aspire.

A  communique  issued at the end of  January 8,  2022, meeting of the PDP leaders and stakeholders in Central Senatorial held at Ugep in Yakurr Local Government Area, endorsed by the incumbent House of Representatives member for Ikom/Boki, Mr. Chris Agibe, two former House of Representatives members for Abi/Yakurr , Bar. Bassey Ewa and Chief Obetem Okorn Obetem, two former Commissioners, Mr. Eko Atu, Bar. Attah Ochinke, two incumbent State House of Assembly members,  Mr. Nelson E Ofem, Madam Itam Abang and 17 others, resolved that, “Central Senatorial district supports the principle of zoning and rotation of political responsibility in the state, and particularly supports the sustenance of the rotation of the governorship of Cross River State following the already established sequence amongst the various senatorial districts.

“That the governorship of Cross River State in 2023, following the established sequence of rotation, should be zoned to the Southern Senatorial district of Cross River State; this position is taken in the unshaken confidence that there are members of the party from the Southern Senatorial District with capacity, competence and commitment to lead the state and restore the developmental strides the state was hitherto known for”.

They also resolved that, “party members across the state aspiring for offices and positions of responsibility on the platform of the party should maintain decorum in the conduct of their political activities and ensure that the unity, cohesion and integrity of the party are not compromised”.

However,  the stakeholders and leaders of the party also said that, “these resolutions are not in support of any particular aspirant, and gubernatorial aspirants from the Southern Senatorial district are all encouraged to propagate their aspirations within the bounds of decency, while working to reconcile their various aspirations”.

They said Central Senatorial district has provided leadership, direction and strength vital for the consistent success of PDP in the state, hence it has become even more imperative given the desire of the people of the state  to return PDP to power in 2023.

With this development, many political pundits are of the view that the 2023  governorship ambition of Senator Onor and others from Central is in jeopardy.
