The National Population Commission (NPC) and National Orientation Agency (NOA) have co-hosted a roadshow to sensitize residents of Calabar on the upcoming 2023 population and housing census across the country.
The exercise which started at the National Population Census Office, Calabar, featured corps members and security agencies, among others.
Briefing newsmen shortly after the roadshow, the NPC State Commissioner, Navy Captain Charles Ogwa (Rtd) said the main objective of the road show is to create awareness to the public on the vision of NPC.
“For the past three weeks the population commission has hosted e-recruitment portal for adhoc staff that will be used during the 2023 census. Before now we had just 4,000 applicants but because of the press briefing we had, as at this morning we have about 7,000 applications that are successful in Cross River State.
“The awareness is is getting on and we hope that before the portal closes on 28 December, we will form the functionary for 2023 census, he disclosed”.
He added, “this is the first ever digital census Nigeria want to conduct and the HITECH we have applied in preparing for the census has shown that even in areas where we experience insecurity, everybody will still be counted.”
On his part, NOA State Director, Mr Amissine Ogban expressed optimism that the synergy with Nigeria Population Commission will yield fruitful result.
“We are out in a new married between NOA and NPC. With the way we’ve started, the sky will be our limit. From here are moving to the field, the 18 LGA will be on top gear for the masses in the rural area to be sensitized and enlightened for the next census, he said.”
