The Alumni Association of Class ’97 Accountancy Department Polytechnic, Calabar, has grandiosely celebrated her Silver Jubilee anniversary to mark its existence.
The event saw the gathering of members of the association from far and near in Cross River State to celebrate the occasion.
It would be recalled that 2021 reunion was marked by a Dinner at Marian Hotel, Calabar.
Speaking at the event, the President of the association, Mr. Inyany Inyany Bassey, said “we have gathered today to thank God for keeping us intact, 25 years after our graduation from the Polytechnic Calabar.”
“For us, it is a thing of joy coming together to see ourselves once again. Rejoicing that some of us are still alive. It is a thing of joy actually to meet this way”.
“It is a combination of so many success factors to have these high level of personality coming together as old accountancy class of ’97. We are proud of our Alma mater”.
“We are also using this occasion to thank God for using our institution to mould us to what we are in the society today, he added”.
He declared, “it is a very remarkable day for us as individuals and as a group”.
Inyang, who regretted the quality of students been chunked out yearly appealed to the Vice Chancellor to get old students who graduated from the school involved for them to impart their wealth of experience in some departments.
Also speaking, a member of planning committee, Elder Dan Nicholas Obun ( FCA), said “25 years ago, is not two days so to say. The association has come of age and is ready to contribute to the development of her alma mater. Some of us already have grand children. You can see how joyful it. So we bless God for giving us this opportunity to reunite again after leaving school.
“Some were not opportuned. Some are alive, some dead and some incapacitated in one form or the other . We are lucky to have been alive to witness this day.”
Today most of us are Directors and captain of industries in our offices and respective places of work, but here we are we still counting, even Nigeria will hear of the Accountancy Class ’97.”
He comnended the Exco for putting up a credible program since they were elected last year. It has done the formal registration of the association, the constitution is ready, carried out charity work to some members and has commissioned anniversary project “a signage” welcoming students to our Alma mater.
Obun however admonished students of the institution to be of good behavior at all times.
Earlier, the Vice chairman and chairman of 2022 planning committee, Mr. Obiora Eze, said the idea was to bring together the Accountancy Class 97 to share in our dreams and success stories.
Eze, who stood in for the chairman, expressed joy and happiness that the occasion was a huge success.
“We decided to gather together like this, to celebrate our 25years Jubilee anniversary”.
According to him, “we have every reason to say thank you Lord for keeping us alive to witness this occasion”.
Eze declared, “I am happy over the turn out. I know next year will be better than what we have witnessed today”.
There was praises to give Thanksgiving to God before the Congress was declared open by the Vice President.
Thereafter, the Secretary. General Sarah Eyo Nsemo(Mrs) read minutes of previous meeting. There were introduction of personality by Elder Dan Nicholas. There were recall of old memories and stories.
The event climaxed with the cutting of the Silver Jubilee anniversary cake and a dinner.
However, there was a Thanksgiving service to honour God for keeping members of Class 97 alive.
The 97 Class have over 100 people as members.
