Parents and guardians have been advised to train up a child the way he should go, so that when he is old, he will not depart from it, according to Provbers 22:6.
The advise was made by The Resident Pastor of True Zion Church, City Gate, Ikot Effangha, Pastor Ezikiel Ekanem during the dedication of master Zahir Ubong Udo on Sunday.
Ekanem who officiated at the well attended church service, urged parents and guardians to teach the child a trade and inculcate in him moral behaviour and Christian virtues at youthful age. He urged parents and other care givers to see themselves as Chanel’s of training for children who shall grow to become useful to themselves and the society to the glory of God.
Speaking in a sermon entitled “train up a child in the way he should go” anchoring on the book of Proverbs 22:6, admonished parents to teach their children the way of the Lord or risk preparation for shame and disgrace that would emanate from poor child upbringing.
He blamed societal mishaps on poor parental upbringing of children, implored parents to live up to their expectations and responsibilities by exercising close monitoring and control at the early stages of their children.
