The Cross River State Chairman of the All Progressive’s Congress (APC), Barr. Alphonsus Ogar Eba, has said that his party shall resist any attempt by group of retired military personnel to militarise the gubernatorial election across the state.
He made the remarks while briefing newsmen on March 11, 2023 gubernatorial election where Prince Bassey Otu is standing election as governor of Cross River State under the All Progressive’s Congress APC.
Eba condemned a situation where retired military personnel engaged the services of military personnel to intimidate legible voters in their polling units across the state.
According to him, “the senairo played out during the just concluded Presidential/National Assembly elections. Majority of APC legible voters were stopped from casting their votes.”
He said reports showed that they were harassed, intimidated, manhandled during the exercise.
Eba reiterated that APC won the election in the North, but was robbed through the naferous activities of retired military personnel who terrorised them during the exercise.
He said “this time around we are ready and prepared to rise against any form of intimidation. We shall resist them. I have written a petition against those alleged to be involved to their respective authority for action”.
The All Progressive’s Congress (APC) put all it takes to win the gubernatorial election come Saturday March 11,2023.
He said as a party, all political appointee who did not deliver in his Polling Units have being pardoned, adding “the party has asked them to go back this time around to deliver, else they will not be paid for the next three months and risk loosing the appointment “.
Eba who lauded Cross Riverians for coming out to cast their votes on February 24, 2023, said “i sincerely appeal to you to cast your votes to Prince Bassey Otu, who is APC gubernatorial candidate. Our party appreciate you and promise that victory shall be for all Cross Riverians”.
He enjoined them not to allow the PDP candidate, Prof. Sandy Onor, who is being sponsored by governor Wike of Rivers state to win to avoid external influence in the polity of the state.
In answer to a question, he said, “i have come to collaborate what i had earlier told concerning the February 23, presidential election that it was marred by serious irregularities of intimidation and broad day brandishing of arms during the exercise by the opposition party.
“APC, he said, had gone further with detailed report to establish through pictorial evidence we have during the exercise “.
The opposition party used retired military personnel who wants to play politics through gangsterism, cultism and intimidation to disenfranchise thousands of voters. This approach, he said, is “unwholesome and barbaric.
However, he described, the gubernatorial candidate Prince Bassey Edet Otu as tested and proven politician of our generation who is capable to drive the state to another level.He is a man of super abundant humility and very accessible.
He applauded gov Ben Ayade’s industrialization drive and spirit over the past eight years. Ayade deserves commendation. He has added a value chain in our economy. “Cross Riverians, i speak to your conscience this day. We need to get along with the national as Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the President -Elect and we can not afford to support him by voting for an APC governor in Cross River State.”
