The internal appointments earlier made by the Chairman of Bakassi local government area of Cross River state, Hon Chief Iyadim Amboni Iyadim, have been dissolved by the Executive Council.
The council decided to disengage the non-statutory political appointees because of lack of funds.
According to the Secretary of Council, Hon Eyo Bassey Edet, while briefing the press at the end of the first 2021 executive council meeting ” the council has disengaged them because it can no longer pay their allowances”.
He explained that the decision was taken by the council to reduce the overhead currently faced by it, stressing that the Council also sympathies with the affected Appointees for the inconveniences it might have caused them.
The secretary stated that though the appointments were approved by the council when it was presented by the Chairman, situations at hand did not favour their stay in office as political appointees.
Edet, however, stated that modalities are being worked out to ensure new openings are made available to them though in another capacity.
He noted that the council is exploring many projects and programs being put in place by the federal and state governments in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN and donor agencies to create jobs and wealth as a way of tackling unemployment and youth restivness in the area.
He assured those affected not to be despaired as the council was determined to ensure they are captured in its activities.
The Secretary of Council reiterated the Council’s determination to boost its Internally Generated Revenue IGR base to enable it undertake projects for the good of the people of Bakassi.
