Cross River State governor Senator Ben Ayade, has directed the management of water board to supply one month free water supply to residents as pallative measure during the lock down.
The Special Adviser to the governor on Water Board, Chief Victor Effiom Ekpo made this disclosure in an exclusive interview with the PatriotNews Online.
He thanked the governor immensely for his benevolence to the people especially at this trying period.
According to him, the gesture is also his effort to encourage people to wash their hands regularly so as to ensure that no case of the Covid-19 is recorded in the state.
Some persons in some parts of Ekorinim and Calabar South have however complained of lack of pipe borne water close to six months, but Ekpo said “such situation could be as a result of leakages and the pipe is blocked for our men to work on it but anyway where there is any leakage members of the public should call our lines which includes mine or come to the office immediately and such leakages will be fixed.
To confirm the seriousness of the government, he said, ” as I speak, we have 40 well kitted plumbers on standby to fix any burst or broken pipe immediately our attention is drawn to it as it is not business as usual”.
He however cautioned that while they enjoy the free water, they should also remember to pay their outstanding old bills to enable water Board serve them better.
Ekpo said out of the eight outstations Calabar, Ugep/Ediba, Itighidi, Okpoma and Obubra are functioning very well and “we have enough chemicals to treat water for the good consumption of the public” .
