As Federal government continues to initiate programmes to alleviate the ever increasing youth restiveness across the country, over 900 youths from the 18 local government area of Cross River State have benefited from the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) Vocational Skill Development Programme.
Flagging off the programme in the state recently,the National Coordinator of (NDE) Nasiru Mohammed said the exercise of 38, 700 (B-NOAS) training is being carried across the Country.
According to him, “you will agree with me that the informal sector is a very significant contribution to the growth of every nation. Their significance is further buttressed by their role in stimulating the economy, promoting flexible labour markets, stimulating productive activities among others”.
“It is important to state here that in this year training of 50 unemployed youths are being recruited per local government to be train in skills that are trending in their locality. This include fashion design, hair dressing, fabrication and welding. It is my hope that you will put in all that is needed on your part to make the exercise a success”.
In his remarks, the State Coordinator of NDE Gabriel Udam, said the Basic Open National Apprenticeship Scheme of the NDE in 2020 is aimed at the efforts of the Federal government to curb the unemployment scourge of the Nigerian society.
“I am particularly delighted because we are having gathering of Nigerians from all fields of endeavour united interest for common goal which is ameliorating the unemployment in Cross River State”.
Udam said having enrolled into the programme, “i will implore you all to put in your best to justify the investment of the Federal Government on this exercise”.
