Arising from the October 24 EndSARS protest which resulted in the vandaliztion and looting of public and private property in Bakassi Local government area of Cross River state, the Council Chairman, Hon Chief Iyadim Amboni Iyadim, has inaugurated a 10- man Property Recovery Committee
The committee which has the Special Adviser to the governor on Marine Security , Mr Ene Benjamin Effiom as its Chairman.
The committe has a term of three months to perform its duty
Other members of the committee are Mr Joseph Asuquo Bassey, Elder Bassey Etim Edet ,Elder Edet Okon Bassey and the Special Adviser- Peace and Security Mr Effiong Etim Okon
The rest are Mr Ibok Eyo, representative of the army, representative of DSS , representative of the police while the Departmental Security Officer DSO of the council
Mr Umo Asuquo Inyang is the Secretary of the committee
Iyadim who described the composition of the committee as men of honor and intergrity , urged them to undertake their assignment without fear or favor
He enjoyed them to enter every nook and cranny of the area and identify looted property as well prosecute those in custody of such items as government had earlier given them enough time to return them, stressing that “defaulters do not have any reason to have kept looted property in their homes as their failure to return them tantamounts to high headedness and disregard to constituted authority”.
Responding of behalf of the members, the Chairman of the Property Recovery Committee, Effiom, thanked the council for finding them worthy to handle such an assignment, assuring that though the task was much, they were determined to do a good job irrespective of those involved
He promised that the committee will do its best to recover what was looted and those involved prosecuted
