The Cross River state government views with concern, continued flagrant disregard to measures it has put in place to ensure security of lives and property in Calabar, the state capital.
This is contained in a statement signed by Dr Alfred Mboto, permanent secretary special services in the governor’s office, Calabar.
Consequently, residents of the city are by this announcement reminded that government’s ban on,1.Commercial motor cycle operation in calabar2. Movement of keke from 6.00pm to 6.00am in calabar and;3. Curfew from 10.00pm to 6.00am in calabar, are all still in full force.
Additionally, government seriously frowns at the continual flouting of the ban on commercial motor cycle operations as well as plying of keke on roads not authorised for their use.
Government also decries the nonchalant attitude by some Calabar residents towards the 10.00pm to 6am curfew imposed on the city.
In view of the forgoing, government wishes to use this medium to warm that it will NOT compromise the security of the citizens or allow the selfish interest of any individual to prevail over the safety and well being of the people.
Therefore, elements who are bent on sabotaging government’s effort at securing the city are hereby advised, in their own interest, to desist from their nefarious act or bear the burnt of their treachery.
For the avoidance of doubt, the law will be merciless on the defaulters of the security measures and restrictions mentioned above..
Specifically, Keke and motor cycle operators caught violating the ban will be made to forfeit their motor cycles and Keke.
Besides, they will also be prosecuted accordingly.
On the other hand, defaulters of the 10.00pm to 6am curfew will be arrested and prosecuted.
Government is therefore, urging commercial Keke and Motor cycle operators not willing to abide with the orders, to immediately relocate from Calabar metropolis as security agents will in the coming days clamp down on them.
