Staff of Bakassi Local government council converged at the council’s secretariat at Ikot Effiom for the first time since the building was vandalized by hoodlums under the guise of ENDSARS protest on October 24, 2020.
The Chairman of Bakassi local government area, Hon Chief Iyadim Amboni Iyadim, while welcoming both political appointees and staff of the council, said the decision not to relocate to another place following the ENDSARS violent destruction was due to consultations and good counseling against such an action.
Iyadim noted “it is unfortunate that apart from furniture, most of the looted items like official documents from the office were of no importance to those who carted them away and wondered what they did with them”.
He, however, expressed happiness to see everyone after a long while and assured that the council was determined to storm back to glory even under improvised arrangements , advising that all hands should be on deck to let the world know the council is determined to deliver service.
He said with the sad effects of the destruction put behind staff should go digital to enable them save vital documents to avoid the ENDSARS protest experience
According to him , it was the council’s incursion into internet communication to boost communication at local government level and develop Bakassi digitally that fetched him the award he received on December 16, 2020 as the Best Performing Local Government Chairman in Niger Delta Region for ADDING VALUE TO LOCAL GOVERNMENT GOVERNANCE
The Vice Chairman of Bakassi Hon (Etieka), Mrs Lawrencia Ita, said she was delighted for the reunion as members of one fold and by God’s grace they will make it to His glory.
Ita enjoined the staff to imbibe the spirit of good work ethics after losing two months at home while advising that they should be committed as well as adhere strictly by the rules of civil service.
The Head of local government administration (HOLGA), Elder Paul Agboche, who conducted the praise and worship session, called on the staff to be dedicated and committed to their official duties, stating that their presence at the assembly was a reflection of their love for their offices and the administration of the council.
Prayers were offered for a new beginning, national and international attention, spirit of unity and a strong administration with the vigor to succeed.
The Secretary of Council, Hon Eyo Bassey Edet, while filing questions from newsmen restated the resolve of the council to work hard and record remarkable strides.
According to Edet, ” We have forgotten about the damage and are out to perfect the act of doing what we know how to do best , which is service delivery”.
