The 13th chairman of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Dr. Mrs. Glory Tony Effiong has been described as a doyen of accounting profession.
The remark was made by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Irrigation Development, Hon.Andiambe Johnson Ebokpo, while speaking with newsmen during her investiture as the 13th Chairman of ICAN Calabar & District Society.
Ebokpo who spoke at the Calabar International Convention Centre, venue of the ceremony, recalled the Accountant Generals’ days in the Local government system where she vigorously showcased her prowess in the Accounting profession.
Ebokpo expressed confidence that she will therefore the perform exceedingly great in her additional role as the 13 the Chairman of ICAN Calabar & District Society.
Also speaking at the event, the General Manager of Cross River Broadcasting Corporation (CRBC), Sam Nsor, described the 13 the ICAN chairman, Dr. Mrs. Effiong as a woman of integrity with virtues of trust and transparency.
He prayed the Almighty God to see her through all the days as she sojourns to serve humanity in the District Society.
Earlier, a former chairman of ICAN Calabar & District Society, Eld. Dr. Nicolas Obun Dan, ranked the Accountant-General as a woman of impeccable pedigree and veteran in Accounting profession.
Dan, who is also a former Accountant of NEWMAP in Cross River, said that words have failed him in extolling the virtues of his mentor and mobilizer, Dr. Mrs Glory Effiong.
He prayed and enjoined members of Calabar and District Society to rally around the new chairman to enable succeed in the service to humanity during her period of service year.
In her acceptance speech, Mrs. Effiong pledged to use her tenure as ICAN Chairman to strengthen the professional development of accountants in the region and to advocate for reforms that promote transparency and ethical financial management across sectors.
“I am deeply honored by this responsibility and remain committed to the ideals of accountability, excellence, and service. Together with my colleagues, we will continue to uphold the values that define ICAN, she noted”.
The event also featured goodwill messages from ICAN national executives, accounting professionals, and representatives of key institutions, pouring praises on Mrs. Effiong for her remarkable professional journey and her unwavering commitment to public service.
