A former governorship candidate of the Democratic Front for People’s Federation (DFPP) in Cross River state Comrade James Ebri has made a donation of two unit computers to the management and staff of the state owned newspaper corporation, publishers of the Nigerian Chronicle stables.
The donation, he said, is to enable the outfit start production after being vandalized and property destroyed by hoodlums on the 23d of October during the Endsars protest.
It would be recalled that the Nigerian Chronicle owned by the Cross River State government and publishers of Nigerian Chronicle and weekend Chronicle was among several government and private property destroyed during the protest.
Ebri who is also a media consultant and brother to the former governor of Cross River State, Chief Clement Ebri said “when I heard that Nigerian Chronicle was vandalized , I was pained in my heart because this place is like a family place because you know my brother John Ebri was here and Clement Ebri the former governor and if we allow it to die ,it will be a great loss”.
“You know that this place has produced renowned editors like Ray Ekpo, Bankong Obi, Clement Ebri, the former governor and a host of others, he noted”..
Therefore, ” I am making this donation to enable the management get back to work as soon as possible as well as appeal to other spited individuals and government to assist the Nigerian Chronicle in getting back to work”.
Receiving the items, the general manager of Nigerian Chronicle Emma Akpong described the gesture as the life wire of the cooperation and commended the media guru for such a quick response.
He appealed to other public spirited individuals and organizations to assist the media outfit in getting back to work as everything within the organization was lost during the ugly incidence.
Also speaking, the Editor- in Chief of the Nigerian Chronicle Comrade Sam Egbala, appealed to government and public spirited individuals not to allow the 47 years media outfit go out of oblivion and lauded the gesture of the media consultant.
