C’River: State Assembly Bye-Election, Council Chairman Cries Loud Over Plans By PDP To Cause Problem

Barely few weeks to the bye-election into Akpabuyo state constituency, the Chairman of Akpabuyo Local government, Rt Hon, Emmanuel Offiong Bassey has raised alarm over plans by the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to bring machineries to Akpabuyo for the purpose of the bye – election

He made the disclosure at the council headquarters, Ikot Nakanda ,recently when APC Southern Leaders of thought led by Senator Florence Ita Giwa and members of the APC state executive paid a courtesy visit to the local government.

The chairman prior to the visit of the APC personalities had also summoned traditional rulers in the local government area to brief them on the plans by the opposition to course problems during the House of Assembly by election in Akpabuyo.

He urged the village heads and Clan heads to be vigilant during the period of electioneering especially the bye election which is only about two weeks from now, while calling on them to report any suspected faces and in their various villagers to the authority

Bassey had also asked the village heads to go to their various domains and call out their subjects who don’t have voters card to take advantage of the current voters registration in the country which is ongoing in the country.

He reminded them that their voters card is their power as that was the only thing that will guarantee the future of their children by electing leaders of their choice who will give them good governance.

The monarchs who spoke differently appealed to the chairman to look into the issue of their stipends which they complained that it was too meager to do anything meaningful.

Their words; “Sir, 7, 500 being the salary of a village head is too small, we are appealing to you to help us and so something to improve on this”.
