Bakassi: Good Governance Is Our Mission, LG Chairman

Bakassi Local Government Council of Cross River state will always strive to provide good governance to the people at alll times, the Council Chairman Iyadim has promised.

Hon Chief Iyadim Amboni Iyadim, stated this while receiving a report from an 8- man Boundary and Conflict Resolution Committee on the dispute at the beach in Ikang from its Chairman, Hon Etieka Mrs Lawrencia Ita, adding that security in the area will not be comprised.

Iyadim emphasized that nobody nor group of persons in the area will be allowed to live above the law and do things as they like not minding their consequences

He disclosed that the report will be presented at the next council’s executive meeting as an action taken on it be seen as decision of Government after ratification

The Chairman promised that the Council will look into the matter and set an example as the outcome of the report will be a reference case

Earlier, the Chairman of the Boundary and Conflict Resolution Committee on the dispute at the beach in Ikang, Hon Etieka Mrs Lawrencia Ita, while presenting the report, said it was saddled with the responsibility of digging into the claims of ownership of the said beach by the two parties involved

According to Ita , who is also the Vice Chairman of Bakassi Local Government Area, the committee operated within its terms of reference but regretted that it could not submit its report within the mandatory two weeks because of its cope which took a longer and an intensive period to come out with a comprehensive report that will not only address the present but future occurrences of such a case in the area

According to her, both oral and written evidence were received from those involved while evidence was also collected from traditional institutions to verify claims, explaining that the committee also undertook an on the spot investigation of the said beach and as well as interviewed witnesses

While appreciating the Council for finding them worthy to handle the assignment, she disclosed that an additional two persons were added to the committee’s membership based on professional responsibilities
