The Cross River State Chapter of Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has reiterated its support for good governance under the leadership of Gov. Bassey Edet Otu.
As a result, it has passed a “vote of confidence” in him for outstanding accomplishments in the governance of the state.
Speaking at a high profile stakeholders’ meeting in Calabar, recently with the theme, “He Whom The Cap Fits”, the State Chairman of IPAC, Engr Effiom Edet Okon, stated that it was imperative to state that the performance of Gov. Bassey Otu in the last two years was legendary and enviable.
Therefore, “there is no doubt in the fact that the state had witnessed a total turn around in all ramifications”.
He revealed that the vote of confidence came on the heels of careful assessment of the administration’s intervention in providing the following; good road network, improved health sector, good security network, quality education and prompt payment of salaries, pension and gratuity.
“We are an embodiment of different political parties in Nigeria and we have different ideology.IPAC is playing the role of meditation between the citizens and government. We are more or less doing a submarine job to ensure that everybody is held accountable. We in Cross River state are now saying we are supporting Prince Bassey Otu because he has performed very well in a short period of time, hence the need for this coalition.
“Remember, coalition can be against or for, but this very one, IPAC Cross River is in support of what the governor is doing, taking the state to the right direction.
“We have done the assessment and we have seen it. And we are giving him our vote of confidence, saying thank you for doing all these in the space of two years, he stated.
In goodwill messages, stakeholders from Muslim community, transport sector, students affairs and other political affiliations took turns to applaud the governor for his outstanding leadership style.
Responding, the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Edet Otu who was represented by Senior Special Adviser, political affairs, Chief Jake Otu Enyia, applauded the IPAC members for the vote of confidence on his administration, assuring them of his commitment to providing good governance.
“Ordinarily, I wouldn’t say that we’re taken by surprise. We receive this message with admiration, with love, with elevation. And indeed, with all sincerity, we are happy about this, about what has transpired here today.
“What is happening around the nooks and crannies of the state and in Nigeria today is not the making of the people sitting in power.”
“It is the electorates that governance is giving to, they are the ones coming out to appreciate. And we certainly cannot stop them. We just cannot.”
“People are saying, you’ve done well. We wish you to continue. What is the offense in that? Certainly no offense. Even if it were in day one or first week in office, and you do magically and marvelously well, you wouldn’t say people should not appreciate you. So we think that this is the type of thing we definitely will want in our new democracy. You know, people should go in with the urge to do what the people want.
The governor stressed the need for people to work together in view of the fact that the present administration had provided different opportunities for the people of the state to take advantage of.
