As the Season of Sweetness is spreading everywhere, across the 18 local government areas of Cross River state, the Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo in Ikom/Etung were not left out as they joyfully painted Ikom red during their end of year and award ceremony at Ikom Township Stadium recently.
It was another colorful carnival like Cultural festival as members of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo from Ikom/Etung thronged the venue of the event in celebration.
Speaking during at the ceremony, Mazi Okey Maduekwe, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Non – Indigenes Affairs, congratulated the Leader of Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo Ikom/Etung Chapter Prince Agwu Nwokedi and the entire members for a massive turnout, orderliness and powerful cultural displays.
According to him, “I am marvelled by the crowd and the number of Igbos in Ikom/Etung”.
Maduekwe enjoined them to ensure that our people participate fully in the ongoing Voters’ Registration exercise across the state. This also could be done for our young ones who have come of age and those who recently changed their residence location to Cross River State, he added.
“We all are experiencing a new friendly Cross River State with so much economic opportunities and infrastructural turnaround. We as Non Indigenes need to reciprocate the love His Excellency, Sen. Bassey Otu is showing to us”.
The spreading of Season of Sweetness everywhere through his people-oriented programmes and projects are very glaring and obvious.
In his words “His Excellency Apostle Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu loves the Non Indigenes and He is working hard, spreading the Season of Sweetness to everywhere through the people- oriented programme and projects”.
During the ceremony, lots of local and continental delicacies were served to both men, women and children as well as guests and friends.
The highlight of the ceremony was the display of masquerades by the youth while the women displayed several cultural dances as well as thrilled the audience with a match pass to honour the President General of Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo Cross River state, High Chief Hon. Ambrose Chukwuemeka Egwuonwu.
Earlier, High Chief Hon, Ambrose Chukwuemeka Egwuonwu while wishing the people “a merry Christmas and Prosperous 2026”, advised them to continue to be peaceful and law abiding in carrying out their daily businesses wherever they reside within the state.
