The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Cross River State Council, has announced with profound sorrow, the death of one of its distinguished veterans, late Anietie Ben Akpan, whose demise occurred on August 2, 2026.
Late Akpan was a renowned journalist whose illustrious career spanned more than three decades, during which he made remarkable contributions to the journalism profession through his dedication, integrity, and commitment to excellence.
A statement issued by the State Chairman, Comrade Archibong Bassey on behalf of the union described his death as a monumental loss, not only to the NUJ family but also to the media profession and Cross River State as a whole.
She said, the Executive Council, and the entire membership of the NUJ Cross River State Council mourn this painful loss and extend their heartfelt condolences to the Akpan family.
“We pray that Almighty God grants them the strength, comfort, and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss, she added”.
Accordingly, “the family respectfully requests privacy at this difficult time as preparations are being made. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course”.
She prayed God to grant the gentle soul of late Veteran Anietie Akpan rest in perfect peace. Amen.
