Calabar South Hawkins Cemetery To Get Facelift


Chairman of Calabar South Local government area , Hon. Esther Bassey, has assured indigenes and residence of Calabar South that her administration is poised to address the deplorable state of the Hawkins road cemetery in order to improve it’s asthetics and revenue generation potentials 

She dropped the hint during a facility tour of the cemetery as part of measures to boost the internal revenue profile of the local government area.

According to her, “since the internal revenue capacity constitute the major indices for determining statutory allocation from federation account, it has become absolutely imperative to harness all the diverse revenue yielding assets of council for optimum output and to avoid leakages”.

She asserted that the move is targeted to beef up the  council’s revenue base for successful implementation of capital projects and check over- dependant on federal allocation.

The council chairman expressed dismay over  the deplorable state of the cemetery and charged the Work department of the council to urgently address the issue.

Mrs Bassey promised to liaese with relevant security agencies to flush out criminal elements who have turned the cemetery to a safe haven  describing the development as a security menace to the neighborhood.

She pledged to ensure that the burial ground is transform into a befitting place for the dead.
