Worried over the recent fire incident destroyed goods worth several millions of Naira in Ikom Main Market, Sen. Sandy Onor, representing the Central Senatorial District of the State in the 9th Nigeria assembly made an donation of sum of two million naira (N2m) to victims to cushion their losses.
He made thie donation recently when he visited the victims at the market to x-ray the degree of damages caused by the fire.
He was accompanied by the local government chairman of Ikom and Etung L.G.A, Hon. Kingsley Egumi and Hon. John Etuk, respectively..
He said that, upon receiving the news of the outbreak, he aborted all of his engagements in order to meet with the traders, reminding them of their support to his ambition during the last campaigns, while assuring them of his concerns.
“Recall that when we were campaigning, we came here and you all supported us and we won. So, I am in the Senate today because you gave me your mandate; therefore, when something happens to you, I have to show that I am your representative by coming here very quickly to show solidarity and commitment.
“We have seen the extent of damage by this fire incident, Please be rest assured that we are going to be one with you on this,”
“The budget has just been signed into law, let me again assure you that all the promises I made in this market during campaigns would be fulfilled because I try not to make promises I cannot keep.
“In the immediate, I will be leaving behind the sum of two million naira (N2,000,000) for the victims. God will help us do more,” Sen. Sandy said.
Responding on behalf of the traders, the chairman, Ikom Main Market Traders Union (I.M.M.T.U) , Comr. Emmanuel Odigha thanked the Senator for his kind gesture and for being the first official to come and sympathize with the victims of the inferno.
He further prayed that the Almighty God blesses and guides the Senator towards a successful conclusion
