Calabar Goes Agog As Gershom Bassey Clocks 58


The political climate in Cross River state was ignited penultimate March 18th,  2021 as politicians across the state poured praises on Distinguished Senator Gershom Baaaey, representing the Southern Senatorial District as he marks his birthday. 

Senator Gershom who is one of the highly rated members of the Red Chambers, has sponsored so many Bills as well as attracted several infrastructures to the state. 

As a true leader and democrat,  he had recently brought different types of pallatives aimed at cushioning the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic to many people within the seven local government areas under his constituency. 

‘As if that is not enough, he said,  plans have been concluded for the second phase of his palliative programmes across his constituents”.

However many of his constituents from the media,  social class, academia, politicians, youths and women as well as traditional institutions, have continuously poured out messages of commendation and felicitations to mark the celebration in the state as well as in Abuja, the Federal capital. 

Bassey who is rumoured to be one of the favoured candidates  for the 2023 governorship race, is however maintaining his divine silence towards 2023 elections as “it is not yet time for that”, however appealed to Cross Riverians to give their maximum support to His Excellency, Governor Ben Ayade led administration to finish all the good works he had started. 

He said “for now, what the governor need is focus and not distraction from any quarters.  He has to complete all the good visions and dreams for Cross River State “.

Senator Gershom Bassey warned Cross Riverians to shun violence and embrace peace as this is the only way that the state can develop and grow politically and economically. 

He commended the governor for setting up “Operation Akpakwu” which had gone along way in helping to check the rate of crime in the state. 

Senator Gershom Bassey also commended the security personnel for once again been alive to their responsibilities and urged them to do more. 

Those who spoke to our reporter, lauded Senator Gershom Bassey for his benovelence in attracting  Federal infrastructures as well as pallatives to the state. 

“We appreciate you. We love what you  are doing. God will surely guide your ways as the Senator representing Cross River South in the National Assembly, they further prayed”.

Also in his remarks, a veteran journalist Mr. Charles Eniang acknowledged the contributions of the senator to his people and urged him not to relent in his people oriented and quality representation at the National Assembly. 

He prayed God to grant him the grace to continue to touch the lives of the needy in our society.
