The Cross River state Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, (NAWOJ), Coomrade (Mrs.) Umo Basi-Edet has called on All Progressives’ Congress,(APC) to use the period before INEC’s deadline for replacement to consider a woman as the running mate for the Governorship Candidate of the party.
Basi-Edet made the call when a group known as “Team Mma Adiaha Solidarity Movement” paid a courtesy visit to NAWOJ, Cross River State at the NUJ Press Center in Calabar.
NAWOJ Chairperson reaffirmed that NAWOJ will always be at the forefront to ensure the inclusion of women in politics and governance and will not relent in sensitizing citizens on the urgent need to get their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) ready before the forthcoming general elections.
She observed that Women in Cross River State also have the capacity to complement the male folks and help reposition the State, lamenting that “for about 30 years since the emergence of our Late Amazon, Lady Cecilia Ekpenyong no woman has occupied that office.”
Earlier, the State Coordinator of Team Mma Adiaha Solidarity Movement, Mrs. Uduak Spencer Efem, said the group is a movement put together to support Reverend Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, wife of the Cross River State gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC) , Prince Bassey Otu.
The State Coordinator appealed to the media as Agenda setters to promote Candidates who had impacted the society while in various leadership roles describing “Prince Bassey Otu as a man of the people who stood out while at the National Assembly.”
She added that the movement will continue to ensure the promotion of Women particularly in governance and called on all to support the “Back to South project” for fairness, equity and justice.
