Ahead of the 21st National Sports Festival tagged “Delta 2022” scheduled to hold between November 2nd and 25th, this year, the Cross River State Sports Commission is targeting the number one top spot in the medal table.
The Chairman of the Commission Comrade Emmanuel Elom, disclosed this recently at the U.J.Esuene Stadium Calabar during a Talent Hunt programme for the discovery of young athletes in the Southern Senatorial District of Cross River State.
According to him, the Talent Hunt programme is in preparation of Edo 2022 and in readiness of the Commission desire to come up top among the first five position.
“What we are doing now is what is proper in preparation for Delta 2022 we want to showcase what the governor Ben Ayade Administration has being doing in terms of supporting sports development”.
“So we decided to undertake the Talent Hunt and we have discovered ten outstanding athletes in the Northern Senatorial District including a particular girl who have beaten out records, we have also done so in the Central Senatorial District and at the end of the programme we will pick athletes who are ready for the task ahead”.
“When I came in, I inherited atlects who have always competed for Cross River State, and in the last Festival Edo 2020, Cross River did well and from the records of 25 year’s , the State had maintained that feat”.
“Now looking at the structure of the Commission, we cannot continue with the same athletes, we need an upgrade, those who have done well, we supported theme some to become coaches”.
“On assumption of office, I saw that there was need to overhaul and generate facility and the athletes, we are not going to regenerate facility without the minds of the athletes, the governor decided to focus on Youths development through supporting sports development in Cross River State.
