The StandUp for Women Society (SWS) Cross River State Chapter has condemned the gruesome and brutal murder of Miss Edemanwan Edem who was killed and buried in a septic tank.
A Statement signed by the State Chairperson, Umo Basi -Edet in Calabar who also doubles as the Chairperson of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists described the murder of the Young woman as most Barbaric.
Edemanwan until her demise was an Executive member of SWS and served as a strong voice for the women in all ramifications.
Miss Edemanwan Edem was allegedly killed by one Mr Eyo Bassey in Iban Amanso , Akpabuyo, where she resided until her death.
The Suspect who happens to be dating her niece had earlier borrowed some money from the victim amounting to over a million naira ,which he claimed was to help him boost his palm oil business.
All efforts by Miss Edemanwan to get him to refund the loan met which brick walls and rather than pay back the Loan, Eyo Bassey chose to Kill and dump her in a septic tank .
The decomposing corpse was discovered few days later by the youths of the Community even though the Suspect had claimed that she was kidnapped and taken away by her abductors.
SWS commends the Anti-kidnapping Squad for their prompt Response and investigation but however stressed that Justice must be done.
Report shows that the suspect has also confessed that he attempted to poison her twice but she survived it.
We strongly condemn such barbaric and dastardly act and Justice must take its Course.
Miss Edemanwan Edem does not deserve to be killed in such a manner after all the financial assistance she gave to the suspect .
Her family has been robbed of a Breadwinner, the Community and Society at large have been robbed too of a great Woman. WE DEMAND JUSTICE!!!
JUSTICE MUST BE DONE!!!!
