The wife of the Cross River State governor, Rev. Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, has assured the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) of the state government’s readiness to implement the Child Protection Rights Law in the state signed in 2023 by the immediate past administration.
She was speaking when she received the UNICEF Child Protection Program Coordinator,Mr Victor Chima, and Child Protection Network team lead,Dr Kebe Ikpi, in her office.
Otu who was represented by her special adviser on Projects,Programmes and events ,Dr Inyang Asibong, averred that protecting children is one of the core objectives of her NGO,’Humanity in Totality’ which cares for women,widows and children ,especially those living in the rural communities.
She explained that her office is working with the state government to cater for the needs of rural women, girl child, young school leavers and the elderly ones as well as the People Living With Disabilities (PLWDs) through various social interventions programmes.
In his remark, the UNICEF Child Protection Program Coordinator, Victor Chima,said there is need to expand community structures to address the challenges of child protection in the State.
The Director of Child Protection Network, Dr Kebe Ikpi, called for the quick implementation of the 2023 Child Protection Rights Law, to provide a much-needed framework for protecting children’s rights in the state.
The Senior Special Adviser on Administration office of the Wife of Governor Dr. Comfort Oko, lauded the organizations for aligning with Rev Enyoanwan Otu’s vision to care for humanity and ensuring child protection os guarantee in Cross RiverState.
At the high-level meeting were the representative of the Judiciary, Awe Bassey, representative of the Child Protection Network, Nakanda Aseni as well other top Government officials from the Office of Wife of the Governor.
