New Yam Festival: Otu Appreciate God For Bountiful Harvest In Boki

The Governor of Cross River State, Sen.Bassey Otu, has congratulated the Boki people on their new yam festival celebration as he thanked God for this years’ bountiful harvest. 

Governor Otu who was represented at the ceremony by his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey described the Boki people as the most hardworking Cross Riverians across the 18 local government areas.

He promised his administration’s support for Boki, pointing out that two Boki sons who have been appointed commissioners were holding key positions earlier. 

The governor further promised that the government will support the community towards the completion of their church project.

Earlier, Rt. Hon. Hilary Bisong appreciated the presence of the Deputy Governor saying, “Boki is a unique LGA that was bounded by five other Local government areas. 

He said the local government have great farmers in Boki and needed to be encouraged.

Bisong called on the state government to consider gazzeting the colorful event so that it can stand the test of time in the history of Cross River State.

The celebration was graced by legislators, Rt. Hon. Joseph Bassey, Hon. Victor Abang, the Chief of Staff to the Cross River State Governor, Hon. Emmanuel Ironbar, the Commissioners for Finance, Mr. Mike Odere, Commissioner for Industry, Dr. Marcel Angioha, Information, Erasmus Ekpang, Tourism, Arts & Culture, Hon. Abubakar Ewa, amongst others.

It was marked by dances, masquerade competition and other side attractions.

This year’s annual new yam celebration which was hosted by Rt. Hon. Hilary Bisong took place at Ogep Osokom.
