Dep. Gov Charges UNICROSS Alumni To Work Hard To Earn Recognition From The Society

The University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) Alumni home and abroad have been advised to work very hard so as to meet the expectations of the university and the society at large.

The advise was made by the Deputy governor of Cross River state, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey during the 2023 UNICROSS Convention with the theme “University Education, Social Network and National Development: The Role of Alumni held in Calwbar.

The deputy governor was represented at the event by his Head of Personnel Staff, Dr. Chris Ojukpong.

Odey assured the UNICROSS Alumni of his highest esteem and support, having been involved in the process that facilitated the successful transition of the institution to a full conventional university.

“I congratulate the University on her recent ranking as the 7th best University in Nigeria and 37th in Africa. I also want to commend the Comrade Eyam Abeng-led EXCO for giving eight years of their time and resources to UNICROSS Alumni and maintaining a positive image for the association”.

Earlier, a former acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Mrs Akon Joshua, charged the Alumni to do a needs assessment before carrying out projects. 

She advised them to prioritize the needs in all the four campuses so as to move the University forward.

The two-term National President of the UNICROSS Alumni, Comrade Eyam Abeng (MNCS) who is also a member of the Governing Council, University of Cross River State, said he counted it a rare privilege and honour to have served the association for two terms.

“My understanding of leadership is that it is a selfless service to humanity. That is why at every given opportunity to serve, l strive to leave some indelible marks so that even posterity will be kind to me”.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to His Excellency Rt. Hon. Peter Odey and other distinguished guests such as Dr. lnyali Peter, Comr. Egere Patrick Ebu, Hon. Comrade Katame Abang, UNICROSS Microfinance Bank and a host of others.

Rt. Hon. Peter Odey dedicated the award to the governor, Sen. Prince Bassey Otu who he said has shown him fatherly love and leadership.
