The Paramount Ruler of Calabar South in Cross River, (HRM) Etubom Nyong Offiong Okon Etim Ewa 1, has called on all traditional rulers in Calabar South to uphold the virtues of integrity as true custodians of tradition by initiating programmes that would promote the existing peace in this Yuletide season.
Ewa gave the charge in an interview with Journalists in his palace in Calabar South recently.
He admonished all clan and village heads in the area to sheath their swords and toe the path of peace than heat the polity with disputes over land matters.
The Paramount ruler who also framed at reports of overlapping influence and trespass on land in other domains, clarified that the traditional ruler edict is very explicit as it is only the village heads that have authority over their domains without external interference.
He attributed most of the disputes in Efut to indiscriminate sales of one parcel of land to multiple buyers, admonished Clan heads in the area to ensure peace for the overall development of Calabar South.
Ewa who advised against Indiscriminate sales of a single parcel of land to more than one buyer, urged all traditional heads to show sign of identity by erecting signposts in their respective domains as stipulated in the traditional rulers edict 1987. to avoid trespass.
To nip in the bud all security Challenges, the Paramount ruler drew a minimum requirements calling on the federal government to establish a police post and roads network in Idim Ita village of Ekondo clan.
The apex monarch also appealed to the state in collaboration with federal government to establish a semi military base and a joint taskforce in Ekondo clan of Calabar South where a space has already been earmarked by the traditional head of Idim Ita village
In an interview, the village head of Idim Ita, Ekondo clan, Ndabor Tete Eyo Okon Eyo described the Paramount ruler as a Peace advocate and revered custodian of the tradition of the people.
Eyo further extolled his virtues as a leader with a prophetic vision that has transformed Calabar South to a save and Seren environment for peaceful coexistence in recent times
Eyo who also applauded the antics of the governor Prince Bassey Edet Out, in eradicating security breaches in the state, assured of his synergy with the Paramount ruler and the security agencies to promote peace in this Yuletide season.
“I wish to also use this opportunity to thank the Attorney-General of the state,Barr Ededem Ani for his prompt intervention to broker peace in Calabar South” the Ndabor added.
