The Executive Director of Finance and Administration (EDFA) of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Alabo (Hon) Boma Iyaye has urged traditional rulers to accept peace in their respective regions as a major driver of development.
He made this call on when a delegation of Ogu Council of Chiefs paid him a solidarity visit at the Commission’s headquarters, Port Harcourt.
According to the Finance and Administration Executive Director, “it is difficult for development to strive in an area where there is war and rancor; “I want to say that all we need from traditional institutions like this is corporation. We want peace in Ogu Community because we know no development can strive without peace”.
“In a situation where you have war and rancor, no development can strive. So, all we request from you as a Commission and as Niger Delta people is to maintain and continue to maintain the peace that is currently existing in Ogu community, the EDFA said”.
Iyaye, who is also a traditional ruler and holder of one of the revered traditional titles in Ogu land, ‘Fifi Kachiri the 5th of Ogu People’ commended the Ogu Council of Chiefs for the peace which the community has enjoyed all awhile, even as he beckoned on them to continue to preserve it.
“Ogu community is one of the most peaceful in the Niger Delta and so, we pray and appeal that you continue to sustain it, Alabo Iyaye noted”.
In his remarks, the leader of the delegation and Chairman of Ogu Council of Chiefs, Chief Adokiye Ochemieba Chuku, informed that the purpose of their visit was to document their solidarity with the EDFA and also advise him to print his name on the sands of the Niger Delta region, as well as always remember his immediate constituency in course of performing his duties to Niger Deltans.
