The Deputy governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, has commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. T. A. Lagbaja for his leadership style which has increased security alert in Nigeria since assumption of the position.
Rt. Hon. Odey, who represented the governor of the State, Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu made the remarks at the commissioning of the Civil Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Project in Bedia Community in Obudu local government area of the state, the home of Maj. Gen. EAP Undiandeye.
He called for the the Army to consider transforming the Bedia Community Commercial School to a Command Secondary School for the training and education of more people.
Odey stated that Cross River state tate remained proud of Maj. Gen. EAP Undiandeye’s achievements both for the state and the nation.
He recalled that the governor of Cross River State had recently bestowed Gen. Undiandeye with the highest honour in the state to underscore this fact.
Speaking earlier, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. T. A. Lagbaja, said that the project in Bedia had been conceptualized and executed by Maj. Gen. EAP Undiandeye to meet security and socio-economic goals and to bring about peace, meaningful development, unity, cultural affinity and social integration.
He said the Army was in active pursuit of education for all as a means of achieving peace, justice, freedom and equality for all.
The CIMIC project which was sponsored by the Chief of Army Staff included the construction of a new science building, the reconstruction of a hall named after Late Major UJ Undiandeye who paid the ultimate price and an Administrative Block.
The project include the construction of a borehole, solar lights and a CBT Block for WAEC and JAMB contributed by a Bedia son.
Earlier, Maj. Gen. EAP Undiandeye expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff for providing an opportunity for the education of Bedia children.
While appreciating the Chief of Army Staff for his personal presence at the occasion, Gen. Undiandeye declared that the Bedia community will not be the same following the contributions received from the Chief of Army Staff.
The event which was attended by several members of the State Executive Council; the APC State Chairman, Barr. Alphonsus Eba, the Chief of Defence Logistics; Chief of Training; the Commander, Special Forces; The Director-General, Army Heritage Centre; Commander, Artillery; Commander, Army Headquarters Garrison, the Paramount Ruler of Obudu and other traditional rulers, among others, featured the commissioning of the various facilities completed, presentation of mementos and cultural dances.
