A new Governing Council has been Inaugurated for the stability and effective administration of the College of Health Technology, Calabar.
The exercise was performed by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Henry Egbe Ayuk.
Also inaugurated is the Acting Provost for the College.
The State governor, Senator Bassey Otu, had on August 19, 2024, approved the appointments of Dr. Samuel Ernest Urom as chairman and Hon. Ambukwa Inameti, Dr. Cyprain Ntamu Ochiche, Prof. Ejor Tiku, as members of the Governing Council of the College of Health Technology, Calabar; as well as Elder (Dr.) Ita Ikpeme as Acting Provost of the college.
In his remarks at the inauguration, held on Wednesday, September 28, 2024, the Commissioner charged the Governing Council and Acting Provost to repay the Governor’s confidence in them by bringing their wealth of experience to bear with the view to transforming the fortunes of school.
He described the inaugurated officials as “personalities of high pedigree and proven track records, who are replete with the wherewithal to catapultinm the institution to greater heights.”
Dr. Ayuk warned against intractable practices that may impede effective teaching and learning and/or the smooth running of the school, reminding them that the Otu-led administration has zero tolerance for untowardness.
In addition, the Commissioner tasked the governing council to effectively superintendent and ensure that both staff and students, at all times, uphold the ethics, rules and regulations guiding the College.
A legal practitioner, Emmanuel Eyo, Esq, administered the oath of office and oath of allegiance to the newly appointed members of the governing council and acting provost, empowering them to function in line with the statutory provisions of their appointments.
In his acceptance speech, on behalf of all inaugurated officials, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr. Samuel Urom thanked the Governor for finding them worthy of the appointments and the opportunity to contribute their quota to the development of the state.
He pledged the new management teams preparedness to discharge their duties with a sense of commitment and purpose for the overall improvement of the College of Health Technology, Calabar.
The chairman appealed for cooperation from all principal officers towards the fulfillment of all plans for the advancement of the college.
The event was well attended by government officials, friends and well wishers, notably, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr. Ekpo Ekpo Bassey, Special Adviser on Nursing Training/Education, Mrs. Uduak Efem, Special Assistant to the Governor on Nursing, Mr. Coco-Bassey Esu, among others.
