The Cross River State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Egbe Ayuk, has restated the governor Bassey Otu-led administration’s commitment to restoring healthcare services in Akpabuyo, as he paid an official visit to St. Joseph Hospital, Ikot Ene—the only secondary healthcare facility serving the Akpabuyo-Bakassi axis.
Ayuk, who was received by the Executive Chairman of Akpabuyo Local Government, Hon. Effiong Bassey Effiong, emphasized the state’s dedication to reviving critical health infrastructure.
The visit was part of an ongoing assessment of key healthcare facilities across Cross River State.
The revitalization of St. Joseph Hospital aligns with the broader vision of the Governor Bassey Otu-led administration to strengthen healthcare delivery across Cross River State, particularly in underserved areas.
The state government has prioritized infrastructure upgrades, medical supply improvements, and enhanced service delivery as part of its healthcare reform strategy.
Ayuk reiterated that the ministry will continue working with local authorities to ensure residents of Akpabuyo and Bakassi have access to quality medical care.
“Healthcare is a top priority for this administration, and we will ensure that every community gets the attention it deserves. St. Joseph Hospital will not be abandoned. The government is committed to its full rehabilitation,” the Commissioner stated.
St. Joseph Hospital, once a beacon of medical care in the region, has struggled to function effectively since the devastating aftermath of the EndSARS protests, which left the facility in a dilapidated state. Recognizing the urgent need for intervention, Hon. Effiong Bassey Effiong pledged the full support of the local government to partner with the Ministry of Health in revamping the hospital and restoring it to full operational capacity.
“We are committed to working closely with the State Ministry of Health to ensure that St. Joseph Hospital regains its functional status. This facility is critical to the healthcare needs of our people, and we will do all it takes to bring it back to life,” Hon. Effiong assured.
The visit marks the beginning of a coordinated effort to restore and upgrade healthcare services in Akpabuyo, ensuring that residents once again have access to reliable and effective medical care.
