The Cross River State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has said that it is mobilizing resources to mitigate outcome of the impending heavy rains as predicted by NIMET.
In a statement in Calabar, the Director General, Cross River SEMA, Mr Antigha Gill said that the numerous flood prone Communities have been identified and alerted accordingly.
He informed that massive media campaign has been strengthened to ensure that warning signs are heeded to by inhabitants to mitigate the effect of flooding.
The DG revealed further that in addition to the media campaign, sensitization visits have commenced to interface with the communities and give them orientation on the dynamic nature of flooding caused by rainfall, their state of resilience and mitigation capacity.
Mr Antigha emphasized that the most compelling action to take at this time was to exhaustively get the vulnerable communities aware of the impending danger associated with flooding.
He used the opportunity to hint on the resilience and mitigation of. flooding which includes immediate evacuation to higher grounds when under threat and to call for assistance from appropriate quarters for quick intervention .
The DG charged disaster Stakeholders to be at alert so as to respond to disaster events in good time.
Mr Antigha commended the State Government for it’s commitment to rebuilding SEMA assuring that the Agency would be assiduous in the pursuit of it’s mandates.
