Residents of the Okoho Ephraim, Yellow Duke and Umoh Okon along Ekpo Abasi axis in Calabàr South local government area have sent an Save Our Soul(SOS) to the state governor, Sen Prince Bassey Edet Otu over the recent flood that destroyed property worth millions of Naira in the affected areas during the recent heavy downpour.
As a result, many residents have also been rendered homeless as flood forces it’s way into their houses.
Recalled that there has been constant rain for over three days or more which had brought an untold hardship to many residents.
Narrating the ugly situation, the Secretary of the Musaha Close /Okoho Ephraim Street, Comrade Anietie Etim, called the state governor, His Excellency, Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu to come to the aid of many in that community that have been displaced following the heavy rainfall.
While commending the Otu led government for the ongoing infrastructural development across the 18 local government areas in the state, urged him not to relent on the path of rebuilding the state irrespective of South, Central or the North.
According to him, “we respectfully write to appeal to the government to imbibe the spirit of maintenance culture on public infrastructures to prevent unnecessary damage and hardship to law-abiding residents and citizens of Cross River State”.
He further recalled the recent heavy rainfall, the gutter linking Okoho Ephraim, Yellow Duke, and Umo Okon has been severely damaged due to poor maintenance
.
He said property worth millions of Naira were destroyed by the flood due to lack of maintenance.During the period under review, the heavy rainfall had created similar damages in many locations across the state capital. This ugly situation as a matter of fact requires immediate government attention so as to reduce the heavy burden on the shoulders of residents
.
Comrade Etim, recalled that the people in these area have been supporting the Ruling Party over the years, adding “we need recognition and other dividends of democracy. The election is by the corner. Over the years, we have been encouraging people to support the APC-led government in Cross River State.
Furthermore, he said, “Your Excellency, we know you have a listening ear and that in no distant time, the issue brought before you will be addressed.
“Your timely intervention will protect lives, preserve property, and restore confidence among the affected residents, he noted”.
