The Director-General of the Evidence Group, Mr Eyoma Bassey, has inaugurated the group’s working committee in Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State, charging members to mobilise voters across wards and polling units for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
Bassey, who spoke during the inauguration in Ogoja, directed the newly inaugurated committee to take the mobilisation campaign to campuses, villages, wards and polling units, urging members to use their initiative to win support for the APC.
He said the group was established to mobilise support for the party and showcase what he described as the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other APC leaders.
The DG, however, warned members against intimidating or harassing residents in the course of their activities, stressing that anyone found engaging in such conduct would be removed from the organisation.
He also directed members to submit the names of proposed polling-unit coordinators to the leadership for vetting and approval before announcing any structure.
“We are not here to intimidate people,” Bassey said, adding that the Evidence Group was a youth movement and expected its members to be proactive in mobilising support for the APC.
The development comes as the group intensifies its political mobilisation across Cross River State, with Bassey announcing plans to extend the exercise to the other four local government areas of the northern senatorial district before moving to the central and southern districts.
The Director of Media and Communications of the group, Mr Andrea Ekeng, said the organisation would eventually hold a major convention in Calabar where members would make a collective declaration in support of the APC.
Ekeng urged residents to support President Tinubu, Governor Bassey Edet Otu and other APC candidates, citing the Calabar-Itu Road, the Federal Government’s intervention in the state’s oil-well dispute and the approval of the Bakassi Deep Seaport among developments he said justified the support.
He said the Calabar-Itu Road had significantly improved connectivity between Cross River and neighbouring states, while the Federal Executive Council’s approval of the Bakassi Deep Seaport represented a major opportunity for the state.
Ekeng further claimed that the project had attracted the interest of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), which he said had agreed to support its financing with about $3 billion.
He also commended Governor Otu for what he described as efforts to extend development to communities across the state, particularly in the northern senatorial district.
The chairman of Ogoja Local Government Council, Chief Agbeh Christopher Eweh, commended the Evidence Group for bringing its mobilisation campaign to Ogoja.
Eweh said the group’s visit had provided some relief to residents and urged its members to take the campaign to other parts of the northern senatorial district.
The event ended with members and supporters chanting the group’s slogan, “Evidence! No noise, just proof!” while reaffirming their commitment to the APC’s “5 over 5” campaign in the state.
