CROSS RIVER PDP BREATHES SIGN OF RELIEF OVER VENATIUS IKEM RESIGNATION; APC CELEBRATES A POLITICAL LIABILITY

The resignation of Barr. Venatius Ikem as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State has been received with a collective sigh of relief across both factions of the party in the State.

For many committed members of the PDP, his exit is nothing but good riddance to bad rubbish.

Under his leadership, the party was plagued by endless crises, lack of direction, high-handedness and a clear disconnect from the grassroots. He failed to unite the party, failed to provide credible opposition, and supervised the worst electoral outing of the PDP in Cross River State.

Both the old and new tendencies within the PDP agree on one thing: Barr. Ikem had become a heavy baggage the party had to offload to survive and rebuild.

It is therefore laughable and ironic that the All Progressives’ Congress (APC) in Cross River State is rolling out drums to celebrate and receive a man that even his own party is celebrating his departure. The APC should know it is celebrating a political liability.

What Cross River PDP sees as a bad market that has finally left the shelf, the APC is celebrating as a trophy. Time will tell.

The exit of Barr. Ikem may be the beginning of that healing process.
