Frankly speaking, I join millions of Nigerians especially Cross Riverians to celebrate your conferment with the Honorary Doctorate Degree (Doctor of Humanities, Honoris Causa) by Modibbo Adama University, Yola, in North-Eastern Nigeria.
However, this prestigious academic recognition affirms your intellectual depth, public service record, and outstanding contributions to governance and national development.
Also, remarkable is your honour as The Sun Most Distinguished Governor of the Year 2025, an award that reflects your exceptional leadership, visionary governance, and measurable impact on the lives of the people of Cross River State.
For these two significant honours to be bestowed on the same day speaks volumes about your sterling leadership qualities, integrity, and unwavering commitment to good governance.
It is a clear testament that your people-oriented policies, purposeful administration, and strong grassroots connection continue to earn national recognition and respect.
On behalf of the Non-indigenes in the state, I extend my warmest congratulations to our double-honoured Governor, His Excellency Dr. Sen. Bassey Edet Otu.
We are proud of your leadership and confident that your tenure will continue to bring ,season of sweetness, sustainable progress and renewed hope to Cross River State and Nigeria at large.
In a related development, Mazi Okey Maduekwe had thrown his weight behind the Cross River State Government’s renewed push to reclaim the 76 oil wells disputed with Akwa Ibom State.
Okey also called for the 13% derivation revenue from the oil wells.
He made the call while commending the administration of Governor Dr.Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, “saying the non-indigenes community is ready to support the government in the 2027 elections”.
He urged the National Boundary Commission and the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission to conduct their deliberations with transparency, fairness, and objectivity, guided by facts, equity, and constitutional provisions.
Okey also encouraged non-indigenes to register for the voters’ registration card and complete the APC E-registration.
