Bendeghe Ekiem community in Etung Local Government Area of Cross River State witnessed a surge of political activities, as Dr. Obah Edom Tawo formally declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Etung/Obubra Federal Constituency on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The declaration, held at the Bendeghe Town Council Hall, attracted a large and diverse crowd that filled the two-storey venue beyond capacity. Attendees included youths, women, community elders, farmers and traders, reflecting what observers described as a broad-based grassroots mobilisation.
Supporters, many dressed in the ADC’s signature orange colours, displayed banners and chanted slogans in support of the candidate, whose campaign message, “The Time for Service to the People is Now,” resonated throughout the gathering. Delegations from various wards, including Ajassor and Nsofang, were visibly represented, signalling coordinated outreach efforts across the constituency.
In his address, Dr. Tawo spoke passionately, engaging the audience with a style that underscored his familiarity with local concerns. His remarks were frequently met with applause and chants, as he outlined his vision for effective representation and community-focused development.
The event also reflected a structured campaign approach, with prior notifications reportedly sent to the Nigeria Police Force, Ikom Division, and the ADC leadership in Cross River State to ensure security and proper coordination.
Political observers noted that the declaration went beyond a symbolic announcement, pointing instead to a growing momentum around Tawo’s candidacy. The scale of participation, organisational detail and visible enthusiasm among supporters were cited as indicators of an emerging force in the Etung/Obubra race.
With his official entry into the contest, Dr. Tawo is expected to play a significant role in shaping the dynamics of the forthcoming election in the federal constituency.
