Members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria(ICAN) have been advised to display high level of professionalism in the cause of discharging their duties wherever they are employed.
“By so doing, the creditability of ICAN as a professional body will be protected and respected.
This remark was made by the 59th President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, (ICAN), Dr Innocent Iweka Okwuosa, while inaugurating the new executives of Calabar and District Society of the Institute recently.

He also charged them to always showcase problem solving capacity in the discharge of their duties wherever they are engaged as professionals.
The occasion also recorded the investiture of the 11th Chairman, of ICAN Calabar and District Society, of Elder (Dr) Nicholas Obun Dan, (FCA) in Calabar.
Ukwuosa who was represented by Co-ordinator in charge of (ICAN) Calabar and Uyo District Societies, Mrs Lucy Okenna, congratulated the new chairman and members of his executives for having been elected to serve in their various capacity.
He implored members to always rally around the executives for a resounding success in the course of their tenure.

The President also commended the immediate past executives for elevating the District Society to another level with a plethora of achievements to show during the period under review.
However, he charged the newly invested District Chairman to make (ICAN) a source of envy to other professional bodies by initiating program and projects that would touch members during his tenure.
Earlier, the chairman of the occasion, Mr Akpanke Ogar, described “Dr.Dan as a man of many parts and proven integrity”.

Ogar wished him and his executives a successful tenure of office and further extolled his virtues as a brilliant performer who showcased excellent results in World bank policy strategies in project implementation as a State Project Accountant of Cross River State Nigerian Erosion & Watersheds Management Project,(NEWMAP).
He said we congratulate the new Chairman and EXCO on assumption of office, noting that “this call to serve is no doubt as a result of your commitment to duty and excellence. We have no doubt whatsoever that your administration will record breakthroughs and milestone achievements.”
Also, he said, “let me congratulate the Calabar and District Society on the smooth transitioning from the 10th leadership headed by Mr. Edet Effiom FCA”.

Ogar further stated that he was proud to be associated with the leadership of the Calabar and District during my tenure as Executive Chairman”.
He called the observance of a minute of silence for the repose of the soul of your member and our departed sister, Miss Winnifred Agwe Ukah ACA.
The Institute, he said, would continue to uphold the highest ethical and professional standards in the Accountancy Profession and remains the pace setter among other professional bodies, both locally and internationally.
He therefore wished the new President and his team a successful year in Office.

In acceptance, the veteran team player, Dr. Dan thanked members for finding him worthy to steer the ship of (ICAN) Calabar and District Society as the 11th Chairman.
Dan who predicated his mission on a three point agenda called for collective sacrifices of members to enable his executives achieve her articulated objectives.

He sued for the spirit of oneness, sacrifice, peaceful coexistence and welfare of members.
“It is my cardinal desire to pioneer the process of procuring a befitting Secretariat by starting the laying of the foundation for the District and its possible completion .
Dan said that “my administration will also give prominence to the “Catch them Young Programme”.” You all know me, I will be a master servant, please do not abandoned me”.
The investiture and inauguration was well attended as personalities drawn from the academia, members of Chartered Institute of Taxation, Society of Women Accountants, captains of industries and other veterans in Public Finance sector among others.
Highlights of the occasion were the reading of Citation of the new chairman in honour of his Investiture, inauguration of the new executive and induction of new members.

The new Executives are, Elder Nicholas Obun Dan – chairman, Mrs. Lizzy Ogban, Vice Chairman, Mr. Thomas Okom – Sec- GeneralEld. Christopher Nta – Asst. Sec- General and Dr. Mrs. Obal Usang Technical Sec.
Others include, Mr. Hodo David Onya- Financial Secretary,Mrs. Adenike Fadenipo – Treasurer, Mrs. Helen N. E. Bassey – SWAN Chairperson, Mr. Chukwuemeka Ekesor – 2000/2004, Eld. Dr. Edet Effiong – Ex-Officio 1,Eld. Esien Okorebi Ex-Officio 11 and Dr. Mrs.Glory P. Effiong Ex-Officio 111.
