We Are Committed To Improving Conditions In Our Primary Health Care System – Rt. Hon Odey

The Deputy governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, has reassured the state government’s prepardeness to provide efficient and improved Primary Health Care (PHC) system across the 18 local government areas of the state.

He stated while speaking when during the PHC Director for Yala Local government, Dr. Mrs. Augustina Okem, and her team paid him a courtesy call in his office.

She said that they were happy for Rt. Hon. Odey’s position as Deputy governor and had come to say “welcome” and to dialogue with him as a boss and father.

Okem listed the challenges of PHC, Yala, to include staff shortage, old broken down vehicles, dilapidated buildings and inadequate funding. 

She, however thanked the deputy governor for the role he played to ensure that  PHC get support and counterpart funding for their programmes. 

Earlier, Mrs Anthonia Owan, the PHC Director of Ikom local government area, who described the deputy governor as a simple man, expressed satisfaction for the warm reception accorded them by Rt. Hon. Odey. 

According to her “the Deputy Governor received us, listened to us and I believe that God will use him to relieve some of the tension we have been passing through”.

Responding to the challenges raised by the Directors of Primary Health Care, Rt. Hon. Odey assured that the issues mentioned by them will receive the Governor’s speedy attention as soon as the document is received.

Odey assured the directors that quarterly inspections would be carried out to revitalize the sector, especially regarding the improvement of working conditions and making provisions for imprest.

He promised that his doors will remain open  “so that quarterly we will carry out an inspection to see the ones we have done and the ones we need to do”.

Odey thanked the PHC Directors for coming and wished them a safe journey as they return to their respective local government areas.
