Cross River State Commissioner for Health, Dr Henry Egbe Ayuk has enjoined doctors in charge of government hospitals in the state to wake up to their responsibility through exemplary leadership, as well as blocking financial leakages in the management of their facilities.
Ayuk, who gave the charge, recently, while addressing medical superintendents in his office in Calabar, told them that internally generated revenue and productivity of facilities were far below expectations.
He expressed displeasure at the rising cases of equipment thefts and revenue leakages in the hospitals, and informed that Government will set a small team of professionals and civil society members with the mandate to regularly visit and ensure financial accountability in all facilities.
While assuring them of government’s commitment to clear arrears of salaries owed doctors in the State, the Health Commissioner admonished them to rise up to the occasion.
Earlier, Dr Ben Ajaogbor who spoke on behalf of the superintendents, promised to step up to the plate and appealed to the Commissioner to facilitate payment of backlog of salaries owed doctors.
