The Executive Chairman , Internal Revenue Service,(IRS), Cross River state, Prince Edwin Okon has lauded Rotary International for its immense contributions towards community development in our society.
He stated this while speaking as Special Guest of honour at the installation of the 39th President of the Rotary Club of Hill-Top, District 9142 of Rotary International, Calabar, Cross River..
Okon who also served as a one time President of Rotary Club, lauded the decision of Rotary Club of Hill-Top to focus on how “to kick out polio in the state”.
He expressed confidence that the new leadership under Engr Akonjom would deliver on the mandate of the Club, adding that “Rotary is all about service to humanity as well as a body of professionals and businessmen, uniting under the banner of service”.
Okon who was represented by the Head, Corporate Communications, Internal Revenue Service, Achiane Adams, implored the new leadership to rise up to the challenge of polio eradication in Cross River and remain true ambassadors of the state.
Earlier in an interview, an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of of Cross River State, Joseph Onah Ukpata, extolled the virtues of the 39th President of Rotary Club of Hill-Top Engr. Akonjom.
He described him as “a man with a signature profile of reference and a man of action with a passionate zeal for service to humanity”.
According to Ukpata, “the newly installed Rotary President will deliver to the latter, all that are earmarked for the new Rotary year”.
“Need assessments have been conducted especially in the area of potable water. You know that providing water means , providing the health need of the people, he added”.
“A good source of water supply is an essential ingredient to a healthy living”, he stated.”
In his acceptance speech, the 39th President, Rotary Club of Hill-Top, Engr. Nsed Ayip Akonjom, pledged to run an open administration during the Rotary year.
He lauded his predesessor, Rotarian Stephen Adie and members of the immediate past Board for leaving funds in the purse of the Club for his smooth take off.
During the Rotary year, the new executive are expected to carry out amongst other projects, ten motorised bore holes, Mother and child project by improving on maternal health, by giving out mosquito nets at Ikot Ansa Health Centre, engage polio vaccines, literacy development with emphasis on mathematics and market women empowerment.
The President sued for cooperation from members to succeed. He thanked God for giving him vibrant and reliable executive to work with.
