OBUBRA CHAIRMAN SHOWERS ENCOMIUMS AS PCN APIAPUM PARISH HITS 114 YEARS

Apiapum town, a fast growing commercial nerve centre of Obubra in Cross River and home of the executive Chairman of the Local Government Area, Hon Kingsley Arikpo was agog when Apiapum Parish of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria Marked its 114th anniversary on Saturday ,December 28, 2024,

Speaking at the well attended occasion, the Chairman of Obubra Local Government Council, Hon Arikpo described the Church as a veritable tool for the propagation and domestication of western education in the African continent.   

 
Arikpo who was Special Guest of honour at the ceremony recalled the remarkable contributions of the Presbyterian Church from its inception in Apiapum on December 28, 1910, as Church of Scotland Mission. 

    
Going down memory to recount the huge chunk or eminent personalities that had foundation at PCN Primary School, Apiapum, Arikpo remarked that the entire Okum nation owes a huge debt of gratitude to the Presbyterian Mission.   

  
The Chairman who was represented by a University Don , Elder Dr. Atan Obeten who doubles as Secretary of Obubra Council, pledge to synergize with the Church throughout the period of his administration, emphasizing the giant strides of the early Christian Mission     

 
The Council helmsman admonished the leadership of the Church to emphatically anchor it’s teachings on the virtues of peace tolerance and love, while preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. 

    
Highlight of the occasion was cutting of the Anniversary Cake by the Moderator of the Synod of Upper Cross River Rev Godwin Akang, assisted by other Church Leaders including the guest preacher, Rev James, Rt Rev Effiong Johnson and the host.

     
The Member, representing Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency, RT. Hon Mike Etaba also added grace to the impressive ceremony, as he was represented by his Senior legislative Aide, Hon Etaba Okpa Etaba, a former Vice Chairman of Obubra Council
